Overview of Group Research Activities

Members of the Public Health and Healthy Ageing Research Group come from various disciplines and specialties, including conservative dentistry, dental public health, family dentistry, oral biology, oral diagnosis, oral rehabilitation, orthodontics, paediatric dentistry, and periodontology; a number of the group's members are internationally renowned. A key operating principle of this research group is to encourage research collaboration locally, regionally, and internationally. Within The University of Hong Kong, the research group is involved in two of the 21 interfaculty research themes, namely 'Public Health' and 'Healthy Ageing'. Our group has links with the Centre of Public Health Research and the Centre of Heart, Brain, Hormone and Healthy Ageing in the Faculty of Medicine, and also the Sau Po Centre on Ageing.

Research activity is focused on the core themes of Public Health and Healthy Ageing and includes the following topics:

• Epidemiology of oral diseases
• Clinical trials on innovative preventive methods and treatments of oral diseases
• Assessment of oral therapy outcomes using clinical and patient-centred measures
• Prevention and treatment of oral diseases in medically compromised individuals
• Oral health care services, issues related to human resources, and utilisation of services
• Functional and psychosocial impact of oral diseases (health-relted quality of life)
• Traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of oral diseases
