2008

Dr. Yeun Kit Zin, Michelle (Master of Orthodontics student)

• was co-incipient with Professor Urban Hagg, (Chair Professor in Orthodontics), and co-investigators Dr. Ricky Wong (Associate Professor in Orthodontics), Professor Lakshman Samaranayake (Dean and Chair Professor in Microbiology) and Dr. Richard Kao (Assistant Professor in Microbiology, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine), are recipients of one of the "2008 IADR/GSK Innovation in Oral Care Award" (US$75,000) for the research on "A Natural Edible Agent for Reduction of Oral Biofilm" which recognizes innovative technologies that can be used routinely by the public to maintain and improve oral health and quality of life.

2007

Dr. Andrew T.C. Ow (2006 MDS in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery student)

• was presented with an "Outstanding Oral Presentation Award" at the Second International Conference on Evidence-based Advanced Dentistry, 16-19 November 2007, Hong Kong, for his presentation titled "Bilateral sagittal split osteotomies (BSSO) versus mandibular distraction osteogenesis: which is better?", co-authored with Professor LK Cheung.

Dr. Wey Mang Chek (2005 Master in Orthodontics student)

• was co-recipient of an "Outstanding Poster Award" at the Second International Conference on Evidenced-based Advanced Dentistry. 16-19 November 2007, Hong Kong, for her presentation titled "Stepwise advancement versus maximum jumping with headgear activator", co-authored with Dr Margareta Bendeus Hagg and Professor U Hagg.

Dr. Ruby M.S. Wong (Adv Dip in Periodontology student)

• awarded the "Outstanding Poster Award" at the Second International Conference on Evidence-based Advanced Dentistry, 16-19 November 2007, Hong Kong, for her presentation titled "Non-surgical periodontal therapy and oral health-related quality of life" co-authored with Dr. S.K.S. Ng, Professor E.F. Corbet and Dr. W.K. Leung.

Dr. Wilson Lee (Adv Dip in Orthodontics student)

• awarded the Gold Medal for best performance in the Orthodontics examination RCSEd held in Hong Kong.

Dr. Tony C.K. Lee (Adv Dip in Orthodontics student)

• awarded the "Outstanding Poster Award" on the presentation "Patients' Perceptions regarding Microimplant as Anchorage in Orthodontics" co-authored with his supervisor Professor Bakr Rabie, Dr. Ricky Wong and Dr. Colman McGrath, at the Second International Conference on Evidence-based Advanced Dentistry, 16-19 November 2007, Hong Kong.

Dr. Daisy You (MDS student)

• awarded the Best Paper Award in the category of Cariology and Mineralized Tissues at the 21st Scientific Meeting of the International Association for Dental Research Southeast Asian Division, which was held in Bali, Indonesia, in September 2007. Her paper, co-authored with Dr. CH Chu and Professor Edward Lo, was titled "Precision of clinical diagnosis of fissure caries by different methods".

2006

Dr. Vicky W.K. Tsui (MOrth student)

• awarded the "Outstanding Oral Presentation - Junior Category" on the presentation "Effects of naringin on periodontal pathogens and oral microorganisms" co-authored with her supervisor Professor Bakr Rabie and Dr. Ricky Wong at the 20th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Faculty of Dentistry, The University of Hong Kong, December 2006.

• was awarded the "The Hong Kong Society of Orthodonists Best Research Paper Prize" on the presentation "The effects of naringin on the growth of periodontal pathogens in vitro" at the 2nd Cross Strait 4 Regions Orthodontics Conference, Nanjing, China, 2006 Her supervisors are Professor Bakr Rabie and Dr. Ricky Wong.

Dr. Lau Sze Lok (AdvDip in OMFS student)

• awarded "the Best Scientific Paper (trainee) in Dentistry/OMFS Award of the RCSED/CSHK Conjoint Scientific Congress" in October 2006 on his presentation "Recurrence related to treatment modalities of unicystic ameloblastoma: A systematic review".

Dr. Wey Mang Chek (MOrth 2005)

• was awarded (together with her supervisor, Professor Hägg and Dr. Bendeus) the Unilever Prize for one of the best posters at the FDI Congress, Shenzhen on "How different mandibular advancements with functional appliances affect improvement in molar relationship".

Chan Chi Chun, Andrew (MDS in Periodontology student)

• was awarded the '2006 IADR/Lion Dental Research Award for Junior Investigators (Periodontal Research)' at the 84th General Session & Exhibition of the IADR, Brisbane, Australia June 2006 for the study "Periodontal Risk Spider-web for Periodontal Assessment in Hong Kong Chinese".

2005

Phan Kok Leong (MOrth student)

• Gold Medal for best performance in the Orthodontics Examination RCSEd held in Hong Kong

Dr. Yeung Wing Kwan, Rosa (Adv Dip Periodontology student)

• was awarded the Gold Medal for the best performance in the Membership in Restorative Dentistry Examination of the RCSEd held in Hong Kong.

Dr. Chow Lop Keung, Raymond (MDS Oral & Maxillofacil Surgery student)

• was awarded the "Larry J. Peterson Prize, Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery" for the article "A randomized controlled trial and resorbable versus titanium fixation for orthognathic surgery" published in Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology and Endodontology that based on his MDS project.
